The Pimpama Sports Hub!
The suburb of Pimpama is one of the fastest-growing suburbs in Australia and with that comes the demand for development, in this case, the Gold Coast City Council (GCCC) has delivered for the Pimpama Community. The Pimpama Sports Hub is set to start construction in late October 2019 and be complete in early to mid-2021.
The Sports Hub will be a fully self-sufficient Sporting Hub built on a 14-hectare site on the corner of Bull Roads and Rifle Range in Pimpama. The Sporting complex will be a great asset to the community with endless possibilities, with an estimate of 750,00 annual users.
The GCCC has also predicted that more than 409 jobs will be created for the duration of construction as well as a further 40 jobs once complete. Contributing around $161 million into the local economy. Job opportunities will range from pool lifeguard, hospitality, venue management to hub operations and maintenance. There is still a lot to do before these operational jobs are available.
The Hub will feature:
- Aquatic centre with five pools – 50-metre Olympic standard pool; indoor warm water therapy; learn to swim and 25-metre pools; and an outdoor contemporary water play leisure pool
- Community centre with meeting and function rooms for a range of affordable and accessible activities and a multipurpose hall for performances and larger events
- A health and fitness centre will occupy level two of the aquatic centre
- Shared foyer with a retail outlet, indoor/outdoor café and dining
- 12 netball courts and clubhouse
- Eight competition standard tennis courts and junior ‘hotshots’ court
- Events park for up to 3000 people
- One-hectare community park on Bull Road improved with a natural play area, picnic facilities, lighting and paths
- New signalised intersection on Rifle Range Road, internal road network and 415 carparks
- One-kilometre walking, running and cycling trail with distance markers
- 30 per cent of natural vegetation is retained and improved with landscaping and an enhanced natural watercourse
- Improved safety – with 182 CCTV cameras including 59 external cameras for security and safety.
A message from Donna Gates!
The northern Gold Coast has been one of the fastest growing regions in our country for many years. We’ve witnessed incredible change; from the former open spaces where cattle grazed, to a now highly developed urban community which so many young families are choosing to call home.
Today we have some of the best facilities in the city, as well as the state of the art $80m Pimpama Sports Hub about to start construction. Boasting a diverse landscape and character, the region offers a wide range of lifestyle options.
About 170,000 people now live north of the Coomera River in an area that has something for everyone – from affordable housing close to schools and transport, to the large rural allotments loved by so many of our city’s first residents. The cane fields in the east and the villages of Jacobs Well and Cabbage Tree Point are unique to our city and a popular destination for tourists and fishermen.
The Coomera Town Centre, the Pimpama City Centre and the Ormeau Village have all opened for business in the last 12 months providing convenient shopping and improved services for the region. Finally, residents can enjoy a movie without having to take a 30 minute drive!
For people making the northern Gold Coast home, its suburbs are perfectly located, half way between Brisbane and Surfers Paradise. The Yatala Enterprise Area is expected to deliver 40,000 jobs for locals within the next decade and create one of the best industrial hubs in the country.
Families have the choice of many outstanding public and private schools close by and there’s a strong focus on weekend sport with amazing volunteer parent bodies devoting much of their free time to local clubs.
After one of the most prolonged periods of growth, I’m always happy to see that strong community values and a heart for looking out for each other has been maintained.
The biggest challenge for the future is getting our share of State and Federal funding for the upgrade of the M1 and the delivery of the second north-south corridor, “The Coomera Connector”, so that our road networks continue to flow. We await the Government’s Business Case, but to do nothing is simply not an option.
